The Management and Staff of KCMC Northern Zone Referral Hospital would like to extend their congratulations to Dr. Atukuzwe Kahakwa - KCMC Cancer Specialist, following his win of the 2025 Coleman/Kaplan Mentorship Fund Award, presented by the International Cancer Expert Corps (ICEC) in the USA.

Dr. Atukuzwe Kahakwa, a Specialist Doctor in the KCMC Cancer Department, emerged as the winner of this prestigious international award through his outstanding research project: “From Evidence to Impact: Improving Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy Outcomes through Mentorship-Based Dosimetric Quality Enhancement, at KCMC and ORCI

Tanzania.” This research is expected to shed light on the radiotherapy needs for prostate cancer in the cancer department - KCMC, Tanzania, and globally.

Thus, it met the criteria for this award, leading to Dr. Atukuzwe Kahakwa emerging tops in Tanzania and Africa as a whole, alongside two other winners from Bangladesh-Asia and Moldova-Europe. This award focuses on enabling research to improve radiation treatment for prostate cancer, for instance, in Tanzania.
