Efforts to Secure SIDA Funding for Tumaini Children’s Center TCC
On Nov 13, 2025, an agreement was signed between Bukobahjalpen and DKMG to enable DKMG to receive SIDA funding for activities benefiting street children.
The Chairman of the Board of Bukobahjalpen, Mr. Torbion, signed on behalf of his organization, while Sister Adventina Kyamanywa represented Tumaini Children’s Center TCC, and the Secretary General represented DKMG. The signing took place at the Diocese Headquarters in Bukoba.
TCC, which is owned by DKMG, offers various services to street children in the Kagera region, including outreach, psychological support, education, and family reunification.
Since its establishment, the center has depended on donor funding. Currently, it relies on three main sources: in-house production initiatives, contributions from well-wishers, and support from philanthropists.
A significant portion of this support has come from philanthropists from Sweden, particularly the organization Bukobahjalpen. However, their contribution alone is not enough to meet the growing demands of the center, especially with the increasing number of street children.
For more than ten years, TCC received support from the Swedish government through Forum Syd. This support ended in 2024, leaving the center with budget constraints.
Through Bukobahjalpen, we have now secured SIDA funding specifically aimed at strengthening TCC, enabling the center to continue serving children without depending heavily on external assistance. Our long-term goal is to reach 50% self-sufficiency by the year 2030.
We thank God for this new provision for TCC and DKMG. God is good.
